Poker Festivals 2020
- Mon 26th October - Tue 3rd November, 2020 Malta Poker Festival 2020 at The Casino at Portomaso, Portomaso, Malta Set over 6 days in November, this massive poker festival brings together a lot of different nationalities enjoying several poker tournaments.
- DeepStack Extravaganza events happen five times a year and are a must on every poker player’s calendar as they provide tremendous value in terms of exciting high stakes poker play and some of the largest prize pools around. Recreational players, all the way to professionals, sharpen their skills in this series. Next Events: April 6–26, 2020.
Poker is an ever-evolving game. Unbeatable, unbelievable at times, the game we all know and love will undoubtedly change again during the next year of action.
From the World Series of Poker to the Super High Roller Bowl, there are bound to be differences when we look back at the drama in a year’s time. But what will they be? We’ve taken a look into our crystal ball and given you some 2020 poker predictions to enjoy well after the New Year.
Poker Festival in Tbilisi, April 8-13, 2020. Non-stop cash games Texas Holdem & Omaha $5/5, $5/10, $10/20, best service, free hotel for players.
MORE SUPER HIGH ROLLERS
There’s no doubt that high roller and super high roller tournaments are more popular now than they’ve ever been. Poker fans love to see the best players at the felt, and in a year that saw more Super High Roller Bowl action than ever before, players such as Stephen Chidwick and Sam Soverel have become even bigger superstars than they already were before our eyes.
With at least two or three high roller events being part of most recognized poker festivals, the longevity of the game has been helped by the growing reputations of so many big characters playing high rollers on a regular basis. Every poker fan you speak to now has a favorite and that player more than likely crushes high roller events like they do big-field MTTs.
MORE WSOP EVENTS THAN EVER BEFORE
While the full WSOP schedule of events hasn’t been released as yet, it would surprise us if it wasn’t bigger and better than ever. With 90 events taking place in 2019, the first year of 100 events in the World Series is possible.
After the huge success of the WSOP Online bracelet events in the summer, another bumper selection of tournaments both in Las Vegas and online look set to break records on the Golden Anniversary of the world’s favorite poker festival.
REACTIVE POKER IS BORN
2019 was the year when Game Theory Optimal (GTO) Poker went viral, with poker players adopting the strategy more and more. The game’s best players discussed the way GTO works for them – Stephen Chidwick being just one example – and others such as Fedor Holz and Matthias Eibinger even designed a Pokercode app to help players develop their GTO game.
If there’s one poker innovation waiting to happen, it’s reactive poker. Whatever GTO is, combating it move per move might be the best tactic any high roller could apply to their game. If Reactive Poker isn’t in a battle with GTO by the end of 2020, then there might be someone more in the know than us, which is hard to believe.
A NEW MONEY LIST LEADER
While it may seem unlikely, given Bryn Kenney’s incredible dominance in 2019 which saw him take the number one spot from Justin Bonomo, the fact that there are more super high rollers leads up to think that the overall All-Time Money List lead will change hands in 2020.
The likelihood is that the popularity of the highest-entry events makes it more and more possible to win more money. There are no entry fees taken into consideration on the official Hendon Mob rankings, so tournament totals are going to rise exponentially. While the lead may change hands, don’t rule out that happening multiple times. With Triton events, more Super High Roller Bowls than ever and high roller events at the WSOP likely to include mega buy-ins on the 50th Anniversary of the Series, we can see Bryn Kenney being overtaken at the top… then grabbing back his all-time lead after an even bigger win later in the year.

America's Cardroom - The Venom Hits a New High - Satellites Running Now
The Venom is a regular showcase tournament open to both US and Worldwide players at America's Cardroom Poker. Each time it runs there is a month to 6 week build up, which involves satellite qualifiers. They are organized in tiers... you win a ticket, work your way up and (with a little skill and some good fortune) end up with entry into the $8 million guaranteed main event. This runs from the 22nd January 2021 with 4 separate 'day 1' flights later combining into a single field.
The final table involves life-changing money. Past Venom satellites are packed with recreational type players - there is no reason that with a decent run you can't get your hands on a ticket to the Venom main event.
There are plenty of other reasons to check out this site. Bomb Pots are a brilliant new addition and lead to some crazy play. You can also win life-changing money via the 'Jackpots' which are the ACR variation of lottery sit and goes.
Venom qualifiers are running right now.
You can get a huge 200% crypto (100% for credit card deposits) welcome bonus by using bonus code SNGPLANET.

Past Poker Events
BetOnline Championship Online Poker Event - $2.5 Million Guaranteed
This is the first tournament event at BetOnline (Chico Network). It is smaller than some of the others, though I am looking forward to taking part in it. There are two reasons. One is support. BetOnline are a solid brand, and supporting their events will help to make it a success, and then lead to other events in the future. Second, this is a sports betting brand... which means soft poker games. There are not the huge guarantees, though the fields at BoL are noticably softer than those at the bigger sites.
The dates are 7th to 27th September, 2020. The main event has a $300,000 guarantee - which is twice as big as anything BetOnline Poker have done before.
Like at ACR, you get enhanced bonuses if you pick crypto as your deposit method.
Check out those soft games for yourself, and grab your share of the $2.5 million in guarantees over at www.betonline.ag now!
Party Poker - WPT Online - $100,000,000 Guaranteed
Party own the World Poker Tour. The live events have been postponed this year, and so like the WSOP – things are headed online.
The guarantee for this event is staggering… count those zeros and you get to one hundred million dollars. This includes 12 Championship events, 5 ‘Champions Club’ events and lots of other big money tournaments. You can win a WPT Ring online, along with life-changing money.
Of course, Party want as many of their players involved as possible, which means giveaways and satellite qualifiers will be (literally) thrown at you. They include Spins (lottery SNGs), sit and goes and tiered regular tournament qualifiers.
Grab $30 / £40 in tokens when you make a deposit with bonus code SNGPLANET - and check out the WPT Online event for yourself now over at www.partypoker.com now!
Stay tuned - plenty more events to tell you about in the near future!

Many sites offer regular tournament events these days, often accompanied by their own anagrams and big ‘total guaranteed prizes’ headlines. These are so popular that I decided to create a page covering everything in one place. Here you will find information on what Online Poker events are available, how they work, how you can get the best of out them and links to plenty of other articles for more information on tournament strategy and making the most of the satellite qualifiers.
Poker events are announced all the time, with old ones being changed around and new ideas created. Make sure you bookmark this page now – this will be your reference point for these poker festivals for 2018 and beyond!
What Constitutes An ‘Online Poker Event’ And Which Are The Biggest And Best?
These focus on tournaments and can be anything from 5 to 40 events ranging from a week to a month long. You can expect a ‘main event’ with a big prize pool, and plenty of smaller events, satellites and promotions running alongside. Some include tiered buy-ins, so smaller stakes players can get involved – while others stick to the $100+ entries and run qualifiers to fill up the seats.
PokerStars run the two biggest events of the year:
Pokerstars ‘World Championship Of Online Poker’ (known as the WCOOP). This is the biggest of them all and runs every September, with 60+ events and some of the biggest prize pools you will see in any online tournament… I am talking $5 million guaranteed tournaments with $1 million for the winner here – and up to $40 million in total prizes. As you might imagine, satellite qualifiers to the big events are crazy! Of all the tournament events covered, the WCOOP gives more amateur players life (or at least poker career) changing money than any other! Find out more about the WCOOP and associated satellite qualifiers in this article.
Next in size is the SCOOP, which stands for ‘Spring Championship Of Online Poker’, this one takes place in May and is growing to be almost as big as the World Championship. After a long dark winter there is always an online buzz about this event, which also has 3 tiers of buy-ins and mega prizes for the big events. I should mention the high roller events have eye-watering buy-ins of up to $10,000 and attract big name pros to the tables. For more on the SCOOP and satellites to the events check out this article.
Pokerstars also run 2 more events, the TCOOP (Turbo Championship) and Micro-Millions ( an event especially focused on the smaller buy-ins). I think they have enough coverage on this page already – though of course I will add them to the ‘upcoming events’ list when the next ones are due. For more about Pokerstars in general, you can check out my detailed 2018 Pokerstars review here.
Online Poker Tournament Events Elsewhere:
888 Poker (who are fast developing one of the best poker experienced for recreational and amateur players) have announced their own tourney event. The first 888 Poker Super XL Series will feature $2,000,000 in guaranteed prizes over 87 tournaments. Buy-ins range from $35 up, and there is a big focus on satellites for the events too. Expect the fields to be far softer than equivalent events at the bigger sites! I am tipping this site to be a big success story in 2015 (again!), check out my review here.
Party Poker have only recently jumped on the online poker event train – though they have done an excellent job of it with their PokerFest events. These are shorter events of around 10 days, and feature the higher ($109+) buy-in events, along with a big money main event. There is a big focus on the stage-by-stage qualifiers, which keeps these tournaments very busy. There was $3 million guaranteed at the last running, and I fully expect this to go up next time round after the initial success. What I like about the PokerFest is the large number of extras like special $1 tournaments, leaderboards and jackpots. Party know how to look after their recreational players. Satellites and info can be found on my PokerFest page.
Titan Poker used to run the European Championships, though this has now been replaced with the innovative ‘iPoker Online Poker Series’. This has run twice now, and has a great twist for the main event. Once you get down to the last 27 players, the online tournament stops and the remaining part is played live in a major European city (Barcelona last time). Not only will players be fighting for the best part of the $500k prize pool – there is a chance of some televised fame to go with it. It would be great to see the iPOPs expanding from the current 5 events to include some more games. Keep up with the latest news on my iPOPs page here.
US friendly poker networks are getting to the point where they are big enough to run events of their own. Carbon Poker, on the cool Merge Network, have already run one ‘Poker Maximus’ tournament event, and there are also some one-off specials like the Liberty Tournament which Americas Card room ran to show some defiance on the 1st anniversary of Black Friday. I’ll update the latest list as more events come up, you can also keep an eye on my US friendly poker page for the latest news.
Full Tilt Poker are now back, and with them one of the coolest events around in the form of the 'Full Tilt Online Poker Series' which is usually shortened to FTOPS. This used to happen every few months, and with PokerStars now owning Full Tilt we can expect the gaps between the 'COOP' events to be filled up! There is also a mini-FTOPs which runs separately, this is the same schedule as the bigger events - only with 10% of the buy-ins... as you can imagine the field sizes for the mini-version are huge (and resulting prize pools pretty damn big as well). My review of Full Tilt gives you the low-down on the reincarnation fo this excellent site.
Those are the main events covered, I will add news from other rooms and networks once they get on the online poker events bandwagon!
How Can You Profit From Online Poker Events?
There are three ways you can make money from these events, I will assume that as a SNG Planet reader you are already familiar with the basics of poker tournament strategy… If not then I have a whole section of the site dedicated to exactly that subject here!
Firstly, you should take advantage of the reload bonuses and promotions which usually go along with the events. Pokerstars usually offer a new bonus for each event, and Party are famous for giving their players extra bonuses, and so hardly need the excuse. You should keep some of your poker bankroll in an eWallet such as Skrill (Moneybookers) or Neteller. You can then take advantage of extra bonuses fast.
Second, the satellite qualifiers which go alongside these events are super-soft compared to other games. Many of your opponents will not have a clue about good strategy for the satellite bubble. This should give you a big positive expectation in winning a seat in tournament you might not otherwise have been able to afford. My tip here is to check out the satellites at Titan Poker, those are crazy soft!
Finally, poker tournament events attract 1000’s of amateur and recreational players. If you have read up on your strategy and know a move or two you will be way ahead of the field… all you then need to do is catch a couple of cards to be on your way to what could be the biggest cash of your poker career!
